Corinne Abraham 3rd in Ironman 70.3 Austin

Corinne Abraham, member of the Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team, finished 3rd in IM 70.3 Austin. Due to injury and a bacterial infection, Corinne couldn’t race for 6 months, whereby she had to miss out on this year IM World Championships. With only a short period of of full training in the bag, Corinne is clearly on the way up again after a difficult couple of months.

Great comeback

Corinne finished off the 1.2mile swim in 15th position, not the place she would like to be. But at the halfway mark on the bike, she had already made up a lot of time and was settling herself comfortable in top ten, with only one minute and a half behind top 5. Corinne kept pushing and rounded off the bike section in 5th position. Although she moved herself up from 15th to 5th spot, she was not completely satisfied about the bike part. “I couldn’t push myself on the bike, it felt like I missed a 6th gear”, she said.
During the run, Corinne could show a great form from the beginning until the end. Even though the course challenged her, she put on a very smart half marathon. She could gradually close the gap with the girls in front of her. “I felt strong but I tried not to rush myself, instead I focused on keeping my form and making up time step by step”. Halfway through the half marathon she overtook 4th spot, from then on she knew a podium place was possible. It was a thrilling race until the very end; only in the last mile she passed Lendway to finish off, her first race in 6 months, on the podium! Seymour and Barnett finished first and second.

Corinne is now staying and training in Austin until the 20th November before travelling to Cozumel for the Ironman on 29th November.
