Romain Guillaume wins Gwadloup Tri

Romain Guillaume of the Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team won Gwadloup Tri, an international half distance triathlon in Guadeloupe. The men's podium was only French. Romain Guillaume won with an impressive lead (FRA: 4:10:32), before 2 time French long distance champion Stéphane Poulat (FRA: 4:21:07). Francky Favre came third (FRA: 4:24:50).

2015 started great for the Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team, with 2 wins and a 3rd place in 3 races.

Romain Guillaume 1st in Gwadloup Tri

Romain Guillaume took his first win of the season in the tropical heat of Guadeloupe. Romain Guillaume came second out of the bumpy sea (1,9km swim: 27:47), 2'02" behind Stéphane Poulat (FRA). On the bike, Romain moved up to the front of the race after 20km. At T2, Romain Guillaume (90km bike: 2:15:44) had an 8-minute lead on Stéphane Poulat. During the run, Romain controlled his pace and kept his comfortable lead (21,1km run: 1:23:32).

A beautiful victory

Romain Guillaume had not the perfect preparation for the race but he was clearly happy with the result: "It was a tough swim today, but once I was on the bike I felt great. After 20km on the bike, I passed Stéphane Poulat. I was able to push an average of 300 watts during the race, which was very satisfying. I increased my lead on the bike up to 8 minutes at T2. During the run, it was extremely hot (35°C), my coach had warned me, so I tried to drink and eat enough. I didn't want to take unnecessary risks, but I succeeded.

Recently, I have been sick for 2 weeks, I was doubtful before the race, but now I am happy to see that I recovered well and my race level is coming back. I will keep on training in Guadeloupe until Tuesday, then I go back to France where I will do my next race in 2 months (Cannes International Triathlon: 19th of April)."
