Sofie Goos wins IM 70.3 Texas; Helle Frederiksen 2nd in Lifetime Tri Miami; Ronnie Schildknecht DNF in IM South Africa

An action-packed April 6 brought an Ironman win and a second place for the Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team. Sofie Goos kicked off her season with an impressive victory in the Ironman 70.3 Texas. Helle Frederiksen finished second in the South Beach Lifetime Tri in Miami. Ronnie Schildknecht, on the other hand, was unlucky in the Ironman South Africa. A kick in the stomach during the swim ultimately forced him out of the race.

On April 6, the Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team has no less than 3 athletes competing in 3 different races. First up, we have Ronnie Schildknecht defending his title in the Ironman South Africa. Off-day for Will Clarke in IM 70.3 Oceanside

Will Clarke was forced to retire from today’s Ironman 70.3 Oceanside. After a tough swim that saw him missing the lead group and a few tactical mistakes on the bike (wrong choices at the right time), a nagging calf finally ended his race at the start of the run. Will had hoped for more in this prestigious race, but ultimately didn’t want to risk an aggravated injury for the Ironman 70.3 San Juan in two weeks.

After a strong second place in the Ironman 70.3 South Africa, Will Clarke is ready for the next one: Ironman 70.3 Oceanside. It all happens on March 29th from 6:40am local/2:40pm Brussels time. Dirk Bockel wins IM Melbourne, Axel Zeebroek 7th

Dirk Bockel has won the 2014 Ironman Melbourne! The Luxembourg athlete led a world-class field in the Asia Pacific Ironman championship with a time of 08:01:02. Paul Matthews (Australia; 08:02:14) and David Dellow (Australia; 08:03:07) completed the pro men’s podium. Dirk’s teammate Axel Zeebroek (08:12:35) finished 7th after leading much of the race.

Helle Frederiksen 2nd in IM 70.3 Monterrey

Helle Frederiksen took second place in her first race of the season, finishing the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Monterrey with a time of 04:13:35. Heather Wurtele (04:07:47) of Canada won the race; Caitlin Snow (US; 4:15:17) rounded out the pro women’s podium.

Bart Aernouts 4th in Abu Dhabi SD, Ronnie Schildknecht 5th

Bart Aernouts has taken fourth place in today’s Abu Dhabi short distance triathlon. Ronnie Schildknecht finished fifth. Bart completed the 1.5 km swim, 100 km bike leg and 10 kilometer run in 3:17:11, just 12 seconds shy of a first podium finish of the season. Ronnie’s final time was 3:17:54. British powerhouse brothers Alistair and Jonny Brownlee crossed the finish line together for the win while setting a new course record of 3:12:21. Ruedi Wild (Switzerland; 3:16:59) came in third.
